Most people think that superpowers are abilities that come on demand, but it is simply not the truth. Superpowers are related to the physical condition, mood and familiarity at the given moment. In over 20 years of research, even highly-skilled superpower possessors like Zhang Baosheng and Sun Chulin cannot immediately carry out successful superpower demonstrations that are highly difficult as soon as they start. The same goes to finger reading.

1. A small spin by nature
The last day of the spring break in early April 2002 was a Sunday afternoon. I was rushing to the Electrical Engineering building with the materials, preparing to start the monthly children's finger reading training camp. The purpose of this camp was to gather the children who had already demonstrated this ability once a month and spend three hours practicing, so as not to lose their ability without practicing at home. In early April, the azaleas at on the NTU campus were gradually wilting, but they still attracted some flower-viewing crowds. The square in front of the hall is often used as an activity venue for various groups during holidays, with a lot of hustle and bustle.

1. Email from an elementary school teacher
Since I stepped down from the administrative post as the Vice President for Academic Affairs of NTU in August 2002, I decided to return to my alma mater Stanford University to recharge. On the one hand, the trip was meant to relieve the pressure over the years. On the other hand, I could learn about the latest development of quantum computers. Therefore, with the funding of the National Science Council, I came to Palo Alto in the middle of the month and moved into a rented house. The climate in the Bay Area of California was still a little chilly in the morning and evening, and it became warmer under the sun at noon. The continental climate is cool and dry, not stuffy and never makes people sweaty, making a long-sleeved shirt ideal even in summer. In winter, it gets a little bit colder in the morning and evening, about ten to fifteen degrees lower than that of summer, but the pattern of temperature changes is not so different. There is no need to wear heavy fur. I fell in love with it when I was studying here for my Ph.D. more than 20 years ago. The climate here is really heaven on earth.

1. Finger reading Camp at Stanford University
From September 2002 to February 2003, I was a visiting professor at Stanford University for half a year. Not only did I enjoy California's warm sunshine and gentle climate, but I also saw many friends and students whom I had not met in more than two decades. After graduating from university, most of my classmates went abroad for further studies. They were scattered all over the United States. It was not easy to meet each other, unlike the students nowadays who do the exact opposite of staying in Taiwan. Times have changed and witnessed Taiwan's economic growth and progress over the past two decades, which has greatly reduced its gap with the United States.

Meeting extraordinary people by chance
In 1995, I asked for a sabbatical from the National Taiwan University to relax and restore my energy, as well as trying to find a breakthrough in the research of superpowers. In fall, I took advantage of the vacation to accompany my mother on a visit to relatives and friends in China in September. I stayed in Beijing for about a week. At that time, the most famous person with superpower in China was Zhang Baosheng. I really wanted to meet him, but I had neither relation nor connection so it seemed impossible. Purely by chance, a friend invited me to dinner shortly before my departure. A local named Mr. Li was also present. He has superpowers, but different ones. I took the liberty to ask Mr. Li whether there is any way to find Zhang Baosheng. Mr. Li kindly gave me a phone number, saying that it was Mr. Zhang's number in the 507 Beijing Office. As a result, I gathered a few papers on my own Qigong and superpower research, preparing to go to Beijing to meet Mr. Zhang.
